A collaborative project funded by the University of Michigan Arts Initiative.
As head of Graphic Design, I oversaw the planning, curation, and execution of the 10th annual student publication, producing and distributing 130 copies, and gaining hands-on experience in creating an art-based publication. I collaborated with writers, artists, and designers, strengthening my ability to teach and work cooperatively with a team, ensuring both design and editorial elements were in harmony.  I designed the front and back covers and three spreads within the publication. This  2.5-month-long project resulted in 130 64-page A5 booklets with contributions from 30 students. Each Publication was sold for $12, with over 100 publications sold.
This was my first time leading such a large creative project and gave me great insights into how important small and subtle details are, especially when there is only one round of printing. I loved working on this and look forward to continuing to teach fellow students and sharpening my design skills and editorial process in my next semesters as Head of Graphic Design.
For this spread, I was working with a simple but beautiful drawing of a shell and a long-form poem. On the design team, we choose from a collection of works and try to pick artwork and writing that will complement each other in a two-page spread.  Working with the shell drawing was difficult at first because of the amount of negative space, but it proved to be quite fun once I started working with it digitally. I ended up masking, multiplying, and cutting the image to create this scattered framing effect. For the background, I found a free-use image of water and just had fun playing with different effects and overlays, eventually inverting the black and white image. I am proud of how this page turned out, especially how the dark and obscure coastal image complements the contents of the poem.
Outside of leading the graphic design team for this publication, I have designed posters for Helicon's events and calls for art. Above are a few of the posters I designed for the club.
