A course-long client-based project for UM ITS transforming the University of Michigan’s AI tools to be friendly, accessible, and useful.
Micatchat is the University of Michigan's new personal AI assistant. This tool is redesigned with the functions of UM-GPT and MIMaizy, AI tools made by the university's Information and Technology Services, into a single platform. With MIcatchat users can have all their questions answered in one place, from general curiosities to U of M specific queries only available through the university’s database.
Once users “Start Chatting” they will be prompted to log in using their school email, automatically connecting them to their courses, or they can opt to use the unauthenticated version.
Suggested prompts demonstrate some ways MIcatchat can be used. Uploading your own data is simple with icons on the right side of the search bar. These icons allow users to upload a variety of document types. Additionally, the nav bar and history can be minimized for a minimal look.

Design Choice: Side navigation bar
Both desktop and mobile designs utilize the side navigation bar. This decision enables users to easily find essential features, including settings, help, history, and messages. The navigation bar can also be minimized for a less cluttered Interface, giving users the freedom to choose whether the sidebar is visible.

The addition of a speak-to-chat function, indicated by the microphone icon, makes the site more accessible for those who find navigating keyboards difficult.
